What are the LLL courses?
The ESPEN Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Project is an ESPEN – EU global effort to improve daily practice in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism and develop quality care in nutrition by means of an innovative educational initiative.
What are the main objectives?
To improve knowledge, competence and skills of health professionals and students in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism while providing CME credits and European certification for medical doctors. The courses are open not only for medical doctors. Pharmacists, dieticians, and nurses can attend.
The duration of each course is 4 hours
Paying courses to be reserved upon registration to the Congress (cf. online registration form) and are open for all nutritional care givers (medical doctors, pharmacists, dietitians, and nurses).

Overview of all the modules proposed. You can attend a maximum of 8 modules as some of the modules are running in parallel.
Important information
The LLL Live Courses (4 hours each) are linked with the Educational Programme and are open to all the Congress participants. However, participants wishing to take the LLL case discussions and do the test that follows the corresponding educational session must register specifically to the latter.
All the LLL courses will take place at the Estrel Congress Center (ECC). To register to any of the LLL courses, you need to be fully registered for the 48th ESPEN Congress.
The LLL case discussion and tests will take place after the session at the congress centre, and participants must be registered for the corresponding LLL Course. The corresponding bookings will be provided together with the name badge.
Maximum 50 participants for each LLL Course & Tests (registration on a “first come, first served” basis).

LLL final exam
This is to inform our LLL participants that the next Final Examination for the ESPEN European Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism will be conducted at the 48th ESPEN Congress.
The ESPEN LLL programme in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism has become one of the most challenging educational projects and initiatives in Continuing Medical Education. Around 60 000 users were registered to the LLL programme online, and more than 85 000 have participated in more live courses in the last 18 years.
The first LLL diplomas were awarded at the 2010 Congress in Nice after the first Final Exam. Join the enthusiastic group of ESPEN EU Diploma holders in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism in Vienna. Become a proud holder of the ESPEN Diploma!

Please note, the Final Exam will take place at the Estrel Congress Center (ECC). To take the exam, you need to be fully registered to the 48th ESPEN Congress, in addition to fulfilling all admission criteria.
T-LLL
Teach the Teachers for LifeLong Learning (T-LLL) programme initiated by ESPEN is a recent educational project which is already a success by qualifying new teachers to spread the knowledge and education in nutritional care. Furthermore, the growing interest into the T-LLL is related to its training healthcare professionals using the latest innovative educational concepts.
The T-LLL course is scheduled during the 48th ESPEN Congress on Sunday 6 September 2026.
To register for participation to the T-LLL course, applicants should comply with the following prerequisites and submit the following documents:
- Being registered for the 48th ESPEN Congress
- Being 30 years old or more
- Being an ESPEN member for the current year
- Being a member of a national PEN society, which is block member and council member of ESPEN
- To complete three LLL live courses (12 CREDITS) and three LLL topics online (8 CREDITS)
